Liu Wentao wurde 1973 in Qingdao in der chinesischen Provinz Shandong geboren. Er studierte zunächst Druckgrafik an der Central Academy of Fine Arts in Peking und erwarb später einen Master in Malerei an der University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
Seine Arbeiten bestehen aus feinen, präzisen Bleistiftlinien auf Leinwand, die sich zu dichten, strukturierten Flächen verweben. Dieser minimalistische Ansatz erforscht das Zusammenspiel von Licht, Raum und Stille. Die wiederholte Linie dient ihm dabei nicht nur als formales Element, sondern auch als meditativer Prozess.
Liu Wentao stellte seine Werke unter anderem in Peking, Shanghai, Hongkong, London und Qingdao aus. Er lebt und arbeitet in Peking.
Liu Wentao was born in Qingdao in the Chinese province of Shandong in 1973. He first studied printmaking at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing and later earned a master’s degree in painting from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
His works consist of fine, precise pencil lines on canvas that weave together to form dense, textured surfaces. This minimalist approach explores the interplay of light, space and silence. The repeated line serves not only as a formal element, but also as a meditative process.
Liu Wentao has exhibited his works in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, London and Qingdao, among other places. He lives and works in Beijing.
