Toon Teeken wurde 1944 in Heerlen, Niederlande geboren. Er studierte von 1962 bis 1966 an der Städtischen Akademie für Angewandte Kunst in Maastricht und von 1968 bis 1971 an der Jan van Eyck Academie ebenfalls in Maastricht.
Teekens Malerei ist bekannt für die Kombination von figurativen Motiven und Text/Lettern, oft in Form von Schönschrift, invertierten oder spiegelbildlichen Schriftzügen. Seine Werke präsentieren sich als visuelle Denk- und Schatzkarten: Farben, Linien und Zeichen formen Kompositionen, die nicht zuletzt zum Mitdenken anregen – es geht weniger um das Finden einer abschließenden Bedeutung, sondern um das Spiel mit Assoziationen und Wahrnehmung.
Seit 1991 ist er Dozent an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Den Bosch.
Toon Teeken lebt und arbeitet in Maastricht, Niederlande.
Toon Teeken was born in Heerlen, Netherlands, in 1944. He studied at the Municipal Academy of Applied Arts in Maastricht from 1962 to 1966 and at the Jan van Eyck Academie, also in Maastricht, from 1968 to 1971.
Teeken’s painting is known for its combination of figurative motifs and text/letters, often in the form of calligraphy, inverted or mirrored lettering. His works present themselves as visual maps of thought and treasure: colours, lines and signs form compositions that encourage the viewer to think for themselves – it is less about finding a definitive meaning and more about playing with associations and perception.
He has been a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Den Bosch since 1991.
