Eva Schwab wurde 1966 in Frankfurt am Main geboren. Sie studierte Malerei an der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf und schloss 1996 als Meisterschülerin bei Markus Lüpertz ab.
Früh erhielt sie Auszeichnungen wie den Kunstförderpreis des Düsseldorfer Kunstvereins und Stipendien, etwa bei der Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. Im Laufe ihrer Karriere führte sie Arbeitsaufenthalte u. a. nach New York, Wien und China durch.
Ihr künstlerisches Werk basiert auf persönlichen Erinnerungsarchiven. Sie nutzt Familienfotos, Aquarelle und Enkaustik, um „Nachbilder“ zu schaffen – Werke, die die Schnittstelle von Erinnerung, Identität und Zeit erforschen. Diese entwickeln sich von kleinen Formaten zu großen Bildern, stoffartigen Tüchern, Keramiken und Rauminstallationen.
Eva Schwab lebt und arbeitet in Berlin.
Eva Schwab was born in Frankfurt am Main in 1966. She studied painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy and graduated in 1996 as a master student under Markus Lüpertz.
Early on, she received awards such as the Düsseldorf Art Association’s Art Promotion Prize and scholarships, for example at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. In the course of her career, she has undertaken working stays in New York, Vienna and China, among other places.
Her artistic work is based on personal memory archives. She uses family photos, watercolours and encaustic to create ‘afterimages’ – works that explore the intersection of memory, identity and time. These evolve from small formats to large paintings, fabric-like cloths, ceramics and room installations.
