Stefan Stößel wurde 1970 in Leipzig geboren. Er studierte von 1993 bis 1998 Malerei und Grafik an der Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig bei Arno Rink, bis 2000 als dessen Meisterschüler.
Stößels malerisches Werk spielt im Spannungsfeld zwischen gegenständlicher Erfassung und Reduktion-Abstraktion. In seinen oft großformatigen Ölgemälden befragt er Sehgewohnheiten, indem er Architekturfragmente, Texturen und Figuren in vielgeschichtete, mitunter bühnenhafte Bildräume überführt. Er lebt und arbeitet in Leipzig.
Stefan Stößel was born in Leipzig in 1970. From 1993 to 1998, he studied painting and graphic design at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig under Arno Rink, and remained his master student until 2000.
His paintings navigate the tension between representational depiction and reductive abstraction. In his often large-scale oil paintings, he challenges visual conventions by transforming architectural fragments, textures, and figures into multi-layered, sometimes theatrical pictorial spaces. He lives and works in Leipzig.
